Permissions and privacy
You may quote short passages, explain the ABC Model in your own words and use the ABC tool’s output. Please ask before reproducing a large amount of the book or using it in a product for sale. The site has no accounts or analytics. It stores only information that you submit through the book-email or enquiry forms. The ABC tool runs in your browser and saves its answers there until you clear them.
You do not need permission for these uses
Name the source and follow the limits below. You do not need to email first.
- Quote up to 300 words of the book, or any single passage from this website, in a review, article, talk, newsletter, class or research paper.
- Explain the ABC Model’s three checks in your own words and use them in your team or your own work.
- Use the text created by the ABC tool. What it produces is yours.
For the book, use: Amit Srivastava, Why AI Isn’t Working at Work (2026). For material from the website, name abcatwork.org.
Naming the source is different from getting permission. You must always name the source. Some uses also require written permission.
Ask before using the material in these ways
Send a short email. Explain what you want to use, how much you want to use, where it will appear and when. Non-commercial requests do not require a fee and are usually answered within one week.
- More than 300 words of the book in a single work, or repeated shorter extracts that add up to more.
- Reproducing an exhibit, diagram or table as artwork rather than describing it.
- Translation, audio, or republication of a whole chapter or page.
- Selling training material, a course or a product based substantially on the book.
- Using the text or this site to train a machine-learning model. See below.
Cite the original source
The figures on this site come from other organisations.
To use a statistic, open its entry under Sources and limits and find the original source. Check that the source still supports the claim, then cite that source rather than this website.
Permission is required for AI training
You may not use the text of the book or website to train, fine-tune or develop a machine-learning model without written permission.
You may use an AI assistant while reading the book. You may also paste a short passage into a private chat for discussion or use a prompt created by the ABC tool. These activities are not treated as model training.
What happens to information you enter
The ABC tool remains in your browser. Kit, the email service, stores addresses for the book email. Speaking enquiries go to a private Google Sheet and are emailed to Amit. These two lists are kept separate.
- Analytics
- This site does not use analytics, session recording, heat maps or advertising tags.
- Cookies
- The site does not set its own cookies. Cloudflare may set temporary security cookies to detect bots or complete a security check.
- Browser storage
- The ABC tool saves your answers in this browser so a reload does not remove them. It uses local storage, which you can clear with “Start again” in the tool.
- The ABC tool
- Your answers are not sent to a server. You may copy the finished prompt.
- Book-ordering email
- If you ask for the ordering email, Cloudflare checks the submission and sends your address to Kit. Kit sends a confirmation message. Only confirmed addresses receive the ordering email. This is not a newsletter.
- How long book email addresses are kept
- Kit keeps a confirmed address until you unsubscribe or ask for its removal. The book-ordering list will be deleted within 30 days after the ordering email is sent.
- Speaking enquiries
- If you send an enquiry, your name, email address and any details you provide are saved in a private Google Sheet. A copy is emailed to hello@abcatwork.org so Amit can reply. Enquiry addresses are not added to Kit.
- How long enquiries are kept
- Enquiries are kept for up to 24 months after the last contact, unless they are needed for an active engagement, accounting or a legal obligation.
- Emails you send
- Messages sent directly to hello@abcatwork.org are used to reply to you. They are not added to the book-update list, sold or shared.
- Hosting
- Cloudflare hosts the website. It records technical information about visits, including the IP address, page requested and time. This site does not analyse or export those records.
Cloudflare hosts and protects the website and checks form submissions for bots. Kit stores the book-update list and sends its confirmation and ordering emails. Google stores speaking enquiries in a private Sheet and sends the immediate notification. Apple hosts the inbox used to receive and answer those enquiries.
The site does not use advertising tags, behavioural tracking or a newsletter list. Its fonts are served from this website.
